"Burgos has written a script that is out of the ordinary. It is quite different from those I am accustomed to reading and I couldn't say no to it. By the time I read the final page I was certain I would be traveling to Colombia. I've been in many places and in many films but I still hadn't been to Colombia… The best way to be a tourist is to make a film because you have a fantastic chance to be with the people; during production you meet a wide range of people, from the casting people to the camera operator and producers. "Sofia and the Stubborn Man" is a very choral piece with many interesting actors: Constanza Duque, Gustavo Angarita and Jair Romero, "el Joe", who takes me to the sea. Besides, it's a sweet film with no pretensions, which if made well can be fantastic. People are tired of explosions, monsters and all that racket. This is pure Colombia. In my dreams, which often come true, I can see myself promoting the film across Europe".
Excerpts from an interview with Carmen Maura, Spanish actress starring in the Colombian film "Sofía and the Stubborn Man" on her expectations while filming in Colombia.
