2012: A Great Year for Colombian Film Industry Colombian films win major awards throughout the year on international festival circuit The year is winding down and Colombia's film industry has had twelve great months. The number of films selected for major festivals around the world and the many awards in a variety of categories are proof of the current industry boom. Film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Locarno, Toronto, San Sebastian, Busan, Utrecht, Warsaw, Annecy, Hiroshima, Guadalajara, Guanajuato, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Nueva York, Montreal and Havana, as well as a number of international foundations, recognized and honored the new vision of Colombian films like La Sirga, La Playa D.C., El Resquicio, Animalario, Los Retratos, Sofía y el terco, Chocó, Río, Minuto 200, Silencio en el Paraíso, Rodri, Nacer, Corta, Beatriz González ¿por qué llora si ya reí?, Pescador and projects such as Anna, Gente de bien, Cuentos de viejos, Buenaventura Mon Amour, Violencia, Tierra en la lengua, to name only a few. After more than three years of negotiations, the treaty will take effect during the first quarter of 2013. "This was an historical vote. The European Parliament has cast a convincing vote for a better future for Europeans and Colombians alike," stated Colombia's EU ambassador Rodrigo Rivera. "The positive results of this vote recognize Colombia's progress in recent years and demonstrate a desire for the mutual benefits both parties will enjoy as they promote employment and growth in both Colombia and the EU," added the Ambassador. This treaty is the latest in commercial agreements reached between Colombia and Switzerland, Canada, the US and the European Union.
